About Us

Originally founded as the Springfield Art Association in 1946 by a group of local citizens and artists, the Springfield Museum of Art was officially incorporated in 1952 as a centralized visual arts and education facility in the community. In 1977, the Museum achieved initial accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums, and has been re-accredited in 1986, 1999, and 2012. The Museum was also accepted into the Smithsonian Affiliates program in 2012 and is currently the only art museum in Ohio to bear this distinction.
